| 2 |  |  WHEREAS, The city of Chicago continues to be afflicted with  | 
| 3 |  | gun violence, and seniors at The Chicago High School for the  | 
| 4 |  | Arts (ChiArts) created a temporary memorial on May 30, 2013,  | 
| 5 |  | for all the Chicagoans who have lost their lives to gun  | 
| 6 |  | violence since the beginning of the year; and
 | 
| 7 |  |  WHEREAS, The memorial came at a time when the culmination  | 
| 8 |  | of the students' work on an economic project examining the  | 
| 9 |  | causes of, and possible solutions to, the violence that plagues  | 
| 10 |  | the city coincided with dozens of students being personally  | 
| 11 |  | affected by the violence in Chicago; and
 | 
| 12 |  |  WHEREAS, The memorial was organized by senior Rachel Otero,  | 
| 13 |  | who wanted to make a statement in support of her classmates who  | 
| 14 |  | have lost friends and family to gun violence and to convey the  | 
| 15 |  | message that they are not powerless and can use the arts to  | 
| 16 |  | make a powerful emotional statement to address the violence;  | 
| 17 |  | and
 | 
| 18 |  |  WHEREAS, The memorial included students tracing a chalk  | 
| 19 |  | outline on the sidewalk in front of the ChiArts to represent  | 
| 20 |  | each of the victims of gun violence; each victims's name was  | 
| 21 |  | written into the outline and each name was read aloud during a  | 
| 22 |  | candlelight vigil; and
