            relating to the requirements for the purchase of ammunition;  |

			 | 
            creating an offense. | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
                   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
                   SECTION 1.  Subchapter H, Government Code, is amended by  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            adding Section 411.210 to read as follows: | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
                   Sec. 411.210.  PURCHASES AND SALES OF AMMUNITION.  (a)  In  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            this section "ammunition" means any cartridge, shell, or projectile  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            intended for use in a firearm. | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
                   (b)  A person commits an offense if the person intentionally  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            or knowingly sells ammunition and the person accepts anything other  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            than the following as payment for the ammunition: | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
                         (1)  United States currency; | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
                         (2)  a negotiable instrument in the form of a check that  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            meets the requirements of Section 3.104, Business & Commerce Code;  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            and | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
                         (3)  a debit made through a financial institution debit  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            card. | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
                   (c)  A person commits an offense if the person intentionally  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            or knowingly sells ammunition for a firearm to a person who is  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            younger than 18 years of age. | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
                   (d)  A person commits an offense if the person intentionally  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            or knowingly sells ammunition for a firearm to a person without  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            verifying the age of the purchaser by examining a driver's license  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            or identification card issued by the state or by the United States  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            government, a passport, or other government-issued documentation  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            that provides the person's name, date of birth, and photograph. | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
                   (e)  An offense under this section is a Class A misdemeanor. | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
                   SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
