               WHEREAS, A successful entrepreneur and longtime civic leader  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        in El Paso, Barry Organ Coleman, passed away on May 9, 2015, at the  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        age of 83; and | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
               WHEREAS, Born in Chicago, Illinois, on October 8, 1931,  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        Mr. Coleman worked at Walgreens as a youth and received a company  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        scholarship to study at the University of Arkansas College of  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        Pharmacy; he was stationed in El Paso while serving in the United  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        States Army and adopted it as his hometown; in 1960, he and his  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        wife, Barbara, opened Coleman Pharmacy, and over the years, they  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        built the business into a chain of 11 stores; he served his  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        profession in numerous capacities, including as president of the  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        Texas Pharmacy Association; and | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
               WHEREAS, Mr. Coleman was deeply committed to public health,  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        and he was one of the first to advocate for pharmacies to end  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        tobacco sales; he chaired the El Paso City-County Board of Health,  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        and he gave generously of his time and resources to The University  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        of Texas at El Paso Cooperative Pharmacy Program; in 2014, he and  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        his wife established a professorship at the UTEP College of Health  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        Sciences to research issues along the Mexican border; he also  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        benefited the wider community through his service at the helm of  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        many organizations, among them the El Paso County Historical  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        Society, the Greater El Paso Chamber of Commerce, and the El Paso  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        Downtown Kiwanis Club; moreover, he was active in Democratic  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        politics, and he was a deacon at University Presbyterian Church;  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        and | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
               WHEREAS, Devoted to his family and his community, Barry  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        Coleman made a meaningful difference in the lives of his loved ones  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        and fellow citizens alike, and he will be fondly remembered for  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        years to come; now, therefore, be it | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
               RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Barry Organ Coleman  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        wife of 56 years, Barbara Forester Coleman; to his children,  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        Russell F. Coleman and his wife, Martha, Anne Coleman Hartley and  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        her husband, Mark, Regan Coleman, Douglas Coleman and his wife,  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        Colleen Morris, and Hugh Coleman and his wife, Bernadette; to his  |

        grandchildren, Michael Coleman, Catherine Hartley, Margaret  |
