A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the provision of school safety training to certain |
|
|
employees of a private religious academy or school who hold a |
|
|
license to carry a handgun. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 411.1901, Government Code, is amended by |
|
|
amending Subsection (c) and adding Subsection (f) to read as |
|
|
follows: |
|
|
(c) A qualified handgun instructor certified in school |
|
|
safety under this section may provide school safety training, |
|
|
including instruction in the subjects listed under Subsection (a), |
|
|
to employees of a school district, [or] an open-enrollment charter |
|
|
school, or a private religious academy or school who hold a license |
|
|
to carry a handgun issued under this subchapter. |
|
|
(f) In this section, "private religious academy or school" |
|
|
means a school that: |
|
|
(1) offers a course of instruction for students in one |
|
|
or more grades from prekindergarten through grade 12; |
|
|
(2) is owned, controlled, operated, and maintained by |
|
|
a nonprofit religious organization; and |
|
|
(3) is accredited by an organization approved by the |
|
|
Texas Education Agency for private school accreditation. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
